Ziusudra POV

I couldn't believe the relief I felt upon reaching esharra, home. The large, wooden gates hovered over us, they was large enough to reach towards the sky and the unknown beyond the clouds. I remembered when these gates were built to protect us from the rest of the world, from the people who saw us as monsters. Back then, I did not blame them. We had made poor choices and ruined our very souls.
It wasn't long before the gates creaked open, it almost sounded as if they was screaming, pleading not to be open to allow any outside dangers into our esharra.
The temple was as high as the gates, reaching beyond the clouds and disappearing from sight because of the great distan ina etuti absu, dwelling in the night that still lingered around us. It was made from stones that were an aged yellow tint with large cracks and vines from plants that could survive the winter's wrath ran down along the sides. The archways had no doors, so small piles in snow had made there way inside, making the place seem abandoned.
The children yawned tiredly, they was not use to awakening before the samsum, the sun, rose into it's kingdom in the heavens. And the incident that happened last night did not turn things to their favor.
Ah, the memory of what happened to Crevan shortly after I arrived was unsettling. My gaze turned towards my youngest niece with such adaru, fear, that I was ashamed of myself. But, my fear was not of her, but for her and what wars would be going on in her mind after learning of what she could do and the fate of death that may await her.
Much like the outside, the air was chilling and only the torches along the walls gave small amounts of warmth.
"Homey ..." Blaze muttered, his eyes following a crack with plants poking out from it.
Melody gripped his hand as I led them through the temple, after a few feet, I froze in my tracks, "I want you two to head towards the throne room. It is not far from here. Head straight down this hall, it will be the door with two golden shields on the doors. I wish to speak with Melody alone."
They exchanged nervous looks, but eventually decided that they could not find an important enough reason not to leave us. Blaze ruffled the girl's hair, promising they would return soon before leaving with his twin.
I turned towards the girl, silent washed over us as she stared at me with eyes that seemed to hold no soul. In her arms, she held her 'pet', the Shi she called Cheshire. I believe it was named after a strange purple cat on what was called a 'cartoon'.
"Do you know why I wanted to speak to you alone?" I asked.
She slowly shook her head, "No."
He raised my hand, she let out a small yell as I struck her across the cheek, "Are you truly this relentless for Crevan to see you as a threat!?"

Ember POV

"What do you think Ziusudra wanted with Mel?" Blaze asked, obviously nervous about her safety. Ziusudra wasn't exactly the kindest relative we had ...
I took a look around the temple, the people here ... There was hate in their eyes, they obvious despised us.
Maybe Ziusudra's kindness was the best we was going to get at this point.
Blaze grabbed my arm just as I was about to pass the throne room, like Ziusudra said, it was two large, wooden doors with two gold shields melted to them. A guard in armor that resembled an eagle stood in front of the doors holding a spear firmly in his hands.
"Uh ..." I stepped forward. "We're here to see Celic ..."
  He made no movement.
  "Uh ... We're her great-great grandchildren ..?"
The look in his eyes from underneath the helmet was so strong it was almost impossible to miss it, it was pity. Something Blaze and I didn't see often. He stepped aside, pressing his hand on the door lightly and, surprisingly, it opened with ease. I was surprised seeing as how thick it was. Then again, this man was a guard for Celic, sending that spear of his through a brick wall wouldn't be a problem for him. She was always sure to have the best protection she could get.
"Mannu-" She began to speak in her Sumerian tongue, but scowled upon seeing Blaze and I. "Oh, it is you two ..."
Even though people in this temple didn't really age, the stress of taking care of the people from this temple back when the war had first started took its toll of Celic. There was deep wrinkles along her mouth and dark circles under her eyes. Her hair was dark like most of the people in this temple, but light grey streaks now ran through it. It was pulled back away from her face in a tight bun that hung down on the left side of her face that was framed by a hood that cast a shadow across her face making her seem even more wicked.
I had heard stories about Celic ... None of them good.
"So, I heard of Takien's unfortunate demise." Celic spoke, the word unfortunate dripping with sarcasm.
"She died protecting her family." Blaze said defensively.
"Family." Celic nodded. "As in love?"
"That's right." I said, my eyes narrowing as I was already wanting to rip this woman's head off. She made it seem like Mom's death protecting Mel was no different than her just deciding to leap off a cliff or cut her own throat.
She gave a cruel laugh, "Love, such a weak spot for people ... The smallest thing threatens this emotion and they act without thinking and take extreme risks ... Foolish."
"Oh yes ..." Blaze growled. "Because you know so much about love, heartless old bat ..."
Her wicked smile melted, "Watch yourself, boy. I've lived much longer than you could possibly dream of, I have loved and lost. Eventually, the feeling of love grows tiring and you no longer have a use for it. Now, why is it that you are here?"
"Ziusudra brought it." I said. "He said this would be the safest place for us, but now I'm beginning to wonder ..."
"Yes, I heard of your youngest sister's predicament ... I wouldn't say I disagree with his motives ... But, if Ziusudra wishes for what he believes to be part of our family to stay among us ... I will have no words against it. But, do be warned." Her dark eyes narrowed dangerously, I felt like backing away or shrinking down out of sight, "If there was any problems, if you behave our of line, or cause any harm to my people I will send you outside the safety of my walls to be slaughtered. And I will watch with anticipation to watch the life leave your eyes ..."
Ziusudra, why you no say more words in Sumerian!? D: Sorry, couldn't really find many of the words he was saying in Sumerian. I'll do better next time!

Not a long chapter and not a lot happens, though a enough does happen to leave this off in a bit of a cliffhanger and to build up the suspense of what is to come.

I'm also thinking about stretching this out to the point Mel works at the Psychiatric Hospital and how she seems Conner, or I may do this in a completely different story. Of course, I won't do that till I finish this one. I don't wanna spill any spoilers!

And we get to see Celic's ... Err, kind side. XD I wouldn't call this her evil side seeing as if it wasn't for her son Ziusudra she probably would have had the three executed. And what is Ziusudra so angry about? Didn't Mel save his life? H'mm, someone seems to have anger issues that or over-protective issues. He's lost his niece, I doubt he wants to lose his great-niece to the same man.
